Chronology of cameras Beck R J
The Clincher and Pilot cameras are detective-type cameras of the same construction. They only differ from one series to the other by the presence of a close-up lens and a plate counter on the Pilot.
Each of the two series comprises four different models, each bearing a number from 1 to 4, which are distinguished by their format, the number of plates they can hold, and their lens.

The construction is made of dry wood covered with imitation leather. There is a simplified speed adjustment, as the available choices are I or T.__________
The two elegant latches closing the back of the camera are shaped like swans.
In 1854, two brothers, Richard and Joseph Beck, renamed their London-based optics and microscope company to R & J Beck Ltd after the withdrawal of their third partner, James Smith. The production of cameras began in 1880, and it was in 1892 that the Frena models with their unique system of a notched-edge roll film magazine were introduced.
